College Mentorship Program

Overview:

New Voters offers a paid, thirteen-week remote fall semester program for current undergraduate college students to support New Voters’ mission to empower high school students to lead data-informed, nonpartisan voter registration drives. New Voters mentors work part-time during the week to directly coach high school students (mentees) to run voter registration drives at their schools. Mentors serve as the first point of contact for their students. Mentors largely work on coaching students, but do have the opportunity to conduct recruitment and engage with larger scale New Voters voter registration efforts. Mentors will work remotely for New Voters and are required to have access to the internet.

The Fall 2026 program will run from Monday, August 16th to Friday, November 6th, with regular holidays off. Mentors will be compensated at an hourly rate of $16.50 with a maximum weekly hour amount of 15 and with billed hours being submitted and paid out monthly.

Qualifications and Responsibilities:

New Voters is looking for driven, organized, and passionate undergraduate students at American colleges and universities. Ideal candidates are responsible, communicative, and have a passion for civic engagement and democracy. Some experience with voter registration (through canvassing, GOTV campaigns, non-profit organizations, school clubs, or other backgrounds) is required. Mentors are expected to work a minimum of 8 hours a week and have reliable internet access in order to attend recurring meetings, perform administrative work, and more duties as needed. Mentors have the opportunity to provide high school students individual drive support and large-scale, programatic voter registration drive projects across the country.

New Voters Mentors:

• Help interested students and New Voters 250 fellows design a voter drive plan for their specific school (working with admin, planning, etc), becoming well versed on the state-specific voter registration laws and the execution of voter registration drives
• Meet as needed with each assigned fellow/school
• Maintain frequent communication with each assigned fellow/school and Program Manager
• Update New Voters Drive Tracker(s) regularly with information regarding the status of each of their school’s drives
• Ensure fellows and other students are completing drives and submitting the necessary completion information
• Attending weekly meetings with the Mentorship team to report on drive progress and share helpful strategies with other mentors
• Other duties as needed

Applicants are considered, interviewed, and accepted on a rolling basis. Video interviews will be a combination of discussion about your relevant experience and behavioral interview questions, designed to help us assess you skills and qualifications but also give you a better understanding of the role.
