About Virginia Psychology

Virginia Psychology is a growing multidisciplinary outpatient mental health practice dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based care across the lifespan. We are a private-pay, out-of-network practice offering patients access to Reimbursify for insurance-reimbursement assistance and CareCredit for flexible payment options.

We are seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist or board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to join our collaborative team in Richmond, Virginia.

This is an excellent opportunity for a prescriber who enjoys working with children, adolescents, young adults, and families within a supportive private-practice setting. The clinician will provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and ongoing treatment. The opportunity to provide psychotherapy is also available when desired and aligned with the clinician’s interests and expertise.

The prescriber will collaborate closely with psychologists, therapists, assessment providers, pediatricians, primary care providers, schools, and other healthcare professionals to provide coordinated, patient-centered care.

Virginia Psychology also provides comprehensive psychological, neuropsychological, and psychoeducational evaluations, including specialized assessment for ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, learning differences, and diagnostic clarification. This multidisciplinary approach allows our clinicians to deliver individualized care informed by thorough diagnostic assessment and recommendations.

We offer flexible scheduling, a growing referral base, a beautiful furnished office in Richmond’s Libbie Grove neighborhood, and the opportunity to help shape and expand psychiatric services within a respected outpatient practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for children, adolescents, and young adults.
• Diagnose and treat a broad range of mental health, developmental, behavioral, and adjustment-related conditions using evidence-based practices.
• Provide medication management and monitor treatment effectiveness through ongoing follow-up care.
• Provide psychotherapy when desired and aligned with the clinician’s interests and expertise.
• Collaborate with psychologists, therapists, assessment providers, pediatricians, primary care providers, schools, and other clinicians to develop coordinated, patient-centered treatment plans.
• Collaborate with assessment psychologists regarding patients with ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, learning differences, and co-occurring psychiatric concerns when clinically appropriate.
• Incorporate psychological, neuropsychological, and psychoeducational evaluation findings into diagnostic clarification and treatment planning when clinically appropriate.
• Communicate with patients, parents, schools, pediatricians, primary care providers, therapists, and other treatment professionals when clinically appropriate and properly authorized.
• Participate in multidisciplinary case consultation and clinical review as appropriate.
• Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record.
• Maintain ethical and professional standards consistent with applicable licensing-board requirements.
• Contribute to the continued development of child and adolescent psychiatric services and a collaborative clinical culture.
• Develop professional relationships with referral partners, schools, pediatricians, and community providers.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet the applicable qualifications for their profession.

Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

• MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
• Completion of an accredited general psychiatry residency.
• Completion of an accredited child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship.
• Board-certified or board-eligible in child and adolescent psychiatry.
• Licensed in Virginia or able to obtain a Virginia medical license before beginning clinical work.

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

• MSN or DNP from an accredited nursing program.
• Current PMHNP board certification.
• Licensed in Virginia or able to obtain Virginia licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse before beginning clinical work.
• Current Virginia prescriptive authority or eligibility to obtain it.
• Training or professional experience providing psychiatric care to children and adolescents.

All Candidates

• Current DEA registration or ability to obtain registration before beginning clinical work.
• Experience treating children and adolescents in an outpatient setting.
• Strong diagnostic, psychopharmacology, documentation, and communication skills.
• Commitment to evidence-based, developmentally appropriate, individualized, and patient-centered care.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with parents, schools, psychologists, therapists, pediatricians, and other treatment professionals.
• Experience evaluating and treating ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, and commonly co-occurring conditions in children and adolescents is especially welcomed but not required.
• Interest in collaborating with assessment psychologists to translate diagnostic findings into coordinated treatment recommendations is strongly valued.
• Interest in psychotherapy is welcomed but not required.

Compensation

This is a part-time, fee-for-service independent-contractor position. Compensation is $210–$250 per billable clinical hour and is commensurate with the clinician’s credentials, experience, specialization, and services provided.

The final rate and payment structure will be established in the independent-contractor agreement. The position offers the opportunity to expand clinical hours and earnings as the clinician’s caseload grows.

No formal on-call schedule, inpatient coverage, or weekend coverage is required.
