Economic Development Business Development Intern
The Economic Development Business Development Internship is an opportunity to support The HIVE in small business initiatives. This internship would provide valuable experience in both marketing and data analysis, offering exposure to real-world economic development strategies and support growth in the City of Virginia Beach. The intern will assist with marketing and communication support, database management, outreach, project and event coordination, and admin support.
Required Education: A degree seeking student majoring in Business, English, Marketing, Graphic Design, Public Relations or a related field of study.

Duties:
Working under the supervision of the Senior Business Development Representative, the intern will assist with workshop and 1 on 1 advising coordination with HIVE Partners.
Collaborate with external vendors, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
CRM and database management, including maintaining accurate client records, tracking program data, and supporting audits and reporting.
Client outreach and intake support, acting as the first point of contact, guiding applicants through processes, and assisting with community and field outreach.
Project and event coordination, helping plan, execute, and track internal projects, workshops, meetings, and special initiatives.
Operational and administrative support, including workflow optimization, payment processing, file management, and general support for the director and advising team.
Marketing and communications assistance, including promoting services, supporting social media and digital outreach, and preparing professional written materials.
Conduct outreach to businesses and community stakeholders and gather business intelligence insights to inform marketing strategies and messaging.
Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.

Expected Duration & Schedule: Candidates will work up to 20 hours per week with flexibility and depending on academic requirements. The internship will be available during Fall 2026, with an estimated start date in August and go until November/December with flexibility and depending on academic requirements.
Minimum Requirements: Must be a currently enrolled student and be in good academic standing as determined by the school, college, or university.
