Position Description:
This branch of Public Health Pathways Program is a yearlong opportunity to gain experience in a unit of the Minneapolis Health Department and will cover costs to expand their knowledge of public health through training and education. We encourage individuals from all backgrounds, with diverse educational paths and experiences, to apply. We want to emphasis that this position is not solely for those with higher education.
A Public Health Pathways Program Associate is responsible for supporting an assigned Minneapolis Health Department supervisor or staff, performing in support of department goals and to improve public health services. They will also be responsible for taking professional development trainings or education to strengthen their public health knowledge.
This position aims to provide individuals with the ability to gain knowledge, skills, and attributions associated with working in the Minneapolis Health Department. This position gives the opportunity to gain public health experience, provide opportunities for professional growth, and meaningful networking.
*You are not required to have a degree in Public Health or any previous public health experience.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist assigned Health Department Supervisor while being trained in on their field of work
- Under supervision, assist in enforcement of City ordinances and Federal regulations.
- Collaborate with supervisor to complete assigned projects and tasks, ensuring quality and timeliness.
- Take part in regular check-ins with supervisor to discuss progress, challenges, and goals.
- Data entry and record keeping
- Investigate and troubleshoot issues, report on findings.
- Conduct research into assigned topics and prepare reports for supervisory review and approval.
- Develop an understanding of local, state, and federal public health laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Respond to the residents and provide customer service in person, over the phone, or via email.
- Work with internal and external agencies to ensure City’s public health goals are being met.
- Take part in special projects that support departmental priorities and strategic initiatives
- Support community engagement activities and public health education initiatives.
- Show professionalism, accountability, and commitment to continuous learning.
- Build professional skills in communication, project management, teamwork, and problem-solving through assigned projects and mentorship.
- Complete a capstone project, final report, or presentation summarizing accomplishments and recommendations.
- Attend all scheduled division and department meetings.
- Attend and take part in all training sessions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions: Combination of office, hybrid, and field work

Completion of one year of College Course Work or Equivalent

Equivalency
An equivalent combination of 1 years of knowledge, skills, experience and interest to meet the minimum qualifications.
Commitment
Must be able to commit to a part-time schedule ofapproximately29hours per week fora year.
Selection Process
The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience (100%). It is important that your application shows all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score (70%) on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process.
Interview Selection
The hiring authority reserves the right to determine the maximum number of candidates to interview from the established eligible list. If the hiring authority decides to interview other than by exam score order, they may select additional people to interview based on a candidate's education or experience related to the field, work history, or skills uniquely related to the operational needs of the position.
Background Check
The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. Applicants may be required to sign an informed consent form allowing the City to obtain their criminal history and/or verify their qualifications in connection with the position sought. Applicants who do not sign the informed consent form will not be further considered for the position.

Eligible List
The names of applicants who meet minimum qualification and who pass the screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire three months after it has been established.
