Investigative Internship

As one of the premier Prosecutor’s Offices in New Jersey, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office is pleased to offer Fall, Spring, and Summer Investigative internships for applicants enrolled in any accredited community college or accredited four-year college. Applicants should have a solid academic record. Additionally, the Passaic County Prosecutors Office also considers qualities of personal character, integrity, judgment, maturity, and knowledge of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.   

Depending on the various assignments that are provided to students, which include the Major Crimes Division, White Collar Division, and the Trial Division, students may assist in investigations, hearings, and trials; prepare, compile, and analyze legal and non-legal documents and financial data; perform research, observe suspect interviews, watch surveillance recordings, observe witness interviews, participate in community outreach programs and attend criminal trials.

• Time Commitment: Students must work at least one full day from 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 pm. An additional day may be provided based on the needs of the Passaic County Prosecutors Office.   All internships are in-person, and they are unpaid.  
• All semester internships can be for academic credit or personal experience. Please discuss with your college Internship Coordinator or Academic Advisor to learn about your school’s Academic Internship requirements. 
• Eligibility: Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited community college or accredited four-year college. Students must undergo a full background check to qualify.
• Students: Applicants that apply to the PCPO Investigative Internship should have a goal of becoming a Prosecutor’s Office Detective, Police officer, Correctional officer, State trooper, Probation officer, Federal Agent/Officer, or Parole Officer.
• Hiring Process: Applicants will apply via Handshake with a resume and cover letter. Once reviewed, the student will be contacted for a formal interview. Once the interview is conducted and if the student moves on to the next phase of the process, the student will have to complete paperwork for their background check. Once the background check is completed, the Chief of Detectives and the Deputy Chief of Detectives will review and provide the final approval for the applicant. 
• Collaboration: Interns will speak to attorneys, police officers, victim/witness advocates, and clerical staff to gain from their collective personal experiences.
